Gara’jal the Spiritbinder

 Leader of the Zandalar trolls’ assault on the vaults, Gara’jal is determined to crack open this trove of ancient mystery and bring back whatever arcane power and knowledge he can find. Gifted with dark talents and surrounded by a loyal cadre of Zandalar mystics, he has broken through the outer walls and will not rest until the vaults belong to him.

So we are going to take a look at Gara’jal the Spiritbinder today. It is probably one of the tougher fights for newer groups going into Mogu’shan Vaults. If you haven’t had a look at this fight at all I would suggest going to look at the Fatboss guides (I use them because I find them the most helpful), the 10 man guide is here and the 25 man guide is here.

 

Now to look at the things that Tanks have to worry about.

 

First of all, the boss casts “Voodoo Dolls”, which causes 2 raid members to take 70% of the damage that you take. “Voodoo Dolls” is also a fixate ability, which means that threat isn’t an issue. The boss does high damage, especially when using “Shadowy Attacks”, so you will need to rotate cooldowns.

 

You will also get periodically banished into the Shadow Realm and will only get sent back into the real world when you kill a “Severer of Souls” which doesn’t have that much health. Once you kill it you get sent back and need to wait until the other tank gets banished to tank again.

 

There is no reason why the raid shouldn’t be stacked behind the boss, so if the healers need it, you can use Avert Harm and Zen Meditation to help reduce that damage.

 

So my main tips for this fight are.

 

  1. Make sure you use Guard whenever you are tanking the boss, as damage that is absorbed doesn’t get transferred to the other Voodoo Dolls.
  2. You can kill a couple of the Shadowy Minions in the Spirit Realm because you can use Touch of Death on the Severer of Souls, and if it is unglyphed you can use it every time you get banished.
  3. Statue of the Ox is a huge help in this fight. I know this is a tip in every encounter, but I am just trying to stress that it is something that should be up EVERY fight.
  4. After you get banished, save your Elusive Brew stacks so that when the boss starts to attack you, so that you have 15 stacks up when you get fixated.
  5. Use Expel Harm on cooldown when you have less than 80% health to help the healers.
