Tank Guide Tuesday: Terrible Singing Voice vs. Tornado Alley

Hey guys,

I’m going to continue doing 2 for the price of 1 Tuesdays until I finish up this tier with Sha of Fear, so on the chopping block today we have Imperial Vizier Zor’lok and Blade Lord Ta’yak.

On to Zor’lok, if you haven’t seen the fight yet, you can check out the 10 man guide here and the 25 man guide here.

Zor'lok

As Imperial Vizier Zor’lok is a 1 tank fight, you can go Windwalker if your guild needs you to DPS you can with little in the way of gear changing. As a Windwalker you can use Tiger’s Lust on the Tank when you are moving between platforms if you are using a slower Tank like a Paladin or Death Knight.

As a note, all of the damage in this fight is physical damage, so I suggest taking Dampen Harm and Momentum for the movement speed increase between the platforms. If your raid team has a Warlock that is using Demonic Gateway to move between platforms DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT use it, as you get a 15 second debuff which is called Demonic Gateway which means that you will not be attacked by the boss.

The damage that goes out during this fight isn’t that huge for tanks, as long as you can use Guard or something when the boss uses an Exhale with three stacks of Inhale. During this fight you can also use Leg Sweep when members of your raid get converted to stop them from doing damage or using cooldowns like Psychic Scream.

So my top tips for this fight are;

  1. Make sure you replace your Statue of the Black Ox when you change platforms and go from phase 1 to phase 2, as you will out range them.
  2. When Zor’lok moves into phase 2 you can use Crackling Jade Lightning to generate damage and Chi while he is draining the Pheromones of Zeal from the room.
  3. Avert Harm and Zen Meditation can be used as a small cooldown for the raid members in your Noise Cancelling Zone for Force and Verve.
  4. Because all the damage is physical damage, Devotion Aura from Paladins does nothing, so you should let them know that.
  5. Do not try and use Roll to get into the Exhale, as you can very easily over shoot your target.

And now for the Blade Lord Ta’yak, if you haven’t seen this fight the 10 man fight is here and the 25 man fight is here.

Ta'yak

As this is a 2 tank fight you will need to co-ordinate with your other tank for the Overwhelming Assault. You don’t want to take more than 2 stacks of Overwhelming Assault, as the third hit will generally kill you, you can survive it if you need to, with a cooldown like Dampen Harm, but I advise you don’t try it.

Make sure that you are cycling between Guard and Elusive Brew when you are tanking the boss, you will generate almost 15 stacks fairly regularly when you aren’t tanking Ta’yak, so use that when you taunt, then Guard when it ends. The first Overwhelming Assault you won’t need a cooldown for, but for the second one, I would suggest having at least a Guard, preferably Fortifying Brew or Dampen Harm.

For phase 2, you can use Transcendence when you get removed from the Tornados so that you can use Transcendence: Transfer to get back to it when the boss hits 10% health. I recommend Tiger’s Lust for this fight, because it is hard to use Roll during phase 2, as the Tornado spawns might not let you use it. Tiger’s Lust can also be used to help slower people up the corridor; healers are good to use it on, as the quicker that they are next to the boss, the quicker they can start healing everyone.

So my top tips for this fight are;

  1. Watch your threat, I have accidently pulled the boss off the other tank as an Overwhelming Assault has happened, and gotten very squished.
  2. If you are moving the boss around the room, make sure that you use Summon Black Ox Statue when you have the boss at the new location.
  3. You can summon your Black Ox Statue during phase 2 when you get to the boss, so that it will help out with the healing, during this phase.
  4. Avert Harm and Zen Meditation can be used as cooldowns for Unseen Strike to help with the damage there.
  5. Try and use Guard for the Overwhelming Assaults if you have timed it right.

So that’s it from me today everyone, I hope that you have learned something from reading these. Do you have any tips for these fights as a Tank? Let me know through comments below this post.

  1. I’m the off tank with a paladin main tank so I will do that tiger’s lust on him, good idea! I’ve only tanked the second fight once, and it was a disaster as I was blind to it and only iLVL 461 at the time. I am going back there this weekend and will be using your advice, thanks a lot!

    • I’m glad that the guides have been a help to you. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask. I’m always happy to help 🙂

      • We got to phase 2, but I had to get battle resed in a few of our attempts. This boss will knock your health all the way down when you get that debuff. I will try to better time the Guard and maybe try out using Zen Meditation. I will also try and use Elusive Brew right away when I taunt , but my problem is really later on when those stacks start adding up. Really now though the issue is for our group to avoid those tornados in phase 2, hopefully I won’t die anymore next week.
