Tank Guide Tuesday: Lei Shi Redeemed

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Another Tuesday, another Tank Guide, this time we are going to take a look at Lei Shi. If you haven’t had a look at this fight, you can check out the 10 man guide here and the 25 man guide here.

Lei Shi

This fight is one of the more interesting fights that I have tanked and unfortunately, as all of the damage from Lei Shi is magical damage, we are unable to use Stagger.

At first glance this might make it seem like Blackout kick is useless, however, Blackout Kick is our highest damage ability and the Animated Protectors that appear at 80%, 60%, 40% and 20% of the bosses health hit like trucks. This changes our priority system for our abilities that use Chi while we are fighting the boss. Our priority system is;

  1. Glyphed Guard
  2. Chi Wave
  3. Blackout Kick

While we are fighting the Animated Protectors we follow our normal priority system, making sure that Shuffle is up 100% of the time.

Lei Shi’s main attack, Spray, places a stacking debuff on you, which increases the damage you take from Spray. This means that tank swapping at about 9-12 stacks will stop you from being killed. When the Animated Protectors appear, tank swapping so that one tank can take Lei Shi while the Protectors are up is a good idea. While the Animated Protectors are up Lei Shi takes no damage, and is immune to abilities. This means that Jab and Keg Smash will not generate Chi, so you will need to roll cooldowns to keep yourself alive.

When Lei Shi uses Protect and summons the Animated Protectors it is very important that they get CC’d with whatever you can so they don’t kill your healers. Once they are CC’d you can pick one to kill. I take the talent Deadly Reach during this fight, so I can CC one of the adds. As the Protector you are killing is running low on health you should taunt Lei Shi so that your other tank doesn’t get killed.

This fight isn’t particularly difficult, once you work out a good way to deal with the adds spawning, and have raid cooldowns during Get Away!

So my Monk tips for this fight;

  1. Glyph Guard, and use it every time you are tanking Lei Shi.
  2. Make sure you pick up Diffuse Magic.
  3. I suggest taking Deadly Reach to help with the Animated Protectors.
  4. Make sure that you use Spinning Crane Kick when Lei Shi hides.
  5. Make good use of Expel Harm and Chi Wave.
  6. Zen Meditation will only work for 5 casts of Spray and not the full duration.

So that is it, hopefully you’ve been able to kill Lei Shi with help from this guide, and if not, hopefully you are very close.
